Barry Hendricks suspended as Sascoc acting president

Eight of nine Sascoc board members voted to place Hendricks on "special leave" pending arbitration and a Judicial Body probe. He was accused of interfering in the presidential election process — specifically, of commenting on the unsuitability of rival candidate Ntambi Ravele to Tennis South Africa president Gavin Crookes. Hendricks denied all allegations. The case ultimately fell apart, and later in 2020 he won the Sascoc presidential election and was cleared of wrongdoing.

Safa president Danny Jordaan arrested on fraud charges

Safa president Danny Jordaan was arrested on 13 November 2024 on fraud charges alongside the federation's chief financial officer Gronie Hluyo and PR company owner Trevor Neethling. Despite the arrest, Jordaan continued to seek re-election as Safa president — with no criminal conviction barring him from office under current federation rules.

19 April 2025

World Netball suspends Netball SA president Cecilia Molokwane

World Netball suspended Molokwane with immediate effect, citing alleged misconduct and financial maladministration. World Netball warned that Netball SA itself risked suspension as a member nation if Molokwane remained in post. In October 2025, NSA held its quadrennial elections and Mami Diale replaced Molokwane as president — though the disciplinary process continued.

Athletics SA suspends president James Moloi over credit card misuse

After a 10-hour board meeting, ASA served Moloi with a suspension notice for credit card abuse. A disciplinary hearing, chaired by retired Judge Basheer Waglay, began on 31 August 2026 with four charges tabled.

24 August 2026

Swimming SA president Alan Fritz and CEO Shaun Adriaanse provisionally suspended

The Aquatics Integrity Unit provisionally suspended both Fritz and Adriaanse for potential violations of the World Aquatics Integrity Code, including abuse of power and the provision of false information and fake documents. Both were barred from holding any position within Swimming SA, Africa Aquatics, World Aquatics, or any affiliated body during the suspension period.

9 September 2026

Barry Hendricks suspended as Sascoc president — for the second time

Following a special two-day board meeting, Sascoc suspended Hendricks with immediate effect for alleged breaches of its Safeguarding Policy and Codes Handbook. Retired Judge Basheer Waglay found prima facie evidence warranting referral to the Sascoc Judicial Body. VP Lwandile Simelane assumed presidential duties. Weeks earlier, Hendricks had publicly lamented the "sad events taking place in our national federations".
